Character Name: Indira Ashni; can be shorted to Indy or Dira or something of that nature.

Why this name: I'm afraid I took the cheesy elemental relationship route, because I ever so fond of cheese XD Indira is the Hindu god of Heaven and Thunderstorms, and Ashni just means lightning.  Both names are Hindi.

Race: Human / Reluctant Mage

If you had to sum them up in a word or two... Thunderbringer, or basically, lightning and other storm related magic.

Age: Just turned 17, however she's a year behind because she started late (it took a while before she could tolerate kindergarten without wetting herself)

Physical Desc:
Build: Indy is of slightly above-average height (about 5'9) and about ten-fifteen pounds overweight, however, her body is proportioned in such a manner that if you are not one to think that all women should look like sticks, she is aesthetically pleasing in the classical sense.  Pretty much just think of those old paintings of Roman goddesses and darken the skin a bit to a dusky brown (as she is Indian).  The fat is in all the right places for the most part, with some excess here and there which serves more to accentuate the overall 'softness' of her curves more than anything else. But, of course, since these are modern times and she is teenager, she thinks she is a whale (and she has been teased about her weight, as well as her ethnicity).

Face: Small and often stricken with terror XD Like the rest of her, the lines of her face are rounded and soft, but not fat--it's more like an oval than a circle, if that makes sense.  Her is round and button like, and she has small, plump lips.  ...man, I am no good at describing faces.  SHE'S A PRETTY INDIAN GIRL OKAY.

Hair: Black, shiny, thick, and a bit coarse despite her efforts to soften it with treatments, it falls in gentle waves over her shoulders and down to about mid-back.  She often lets her long bangs hide her face because she doesn't like to make eye contact.

Eyes: Speaking of eye contact n_n  Her lashes are almost non-existent, but the eyes themselves are a strikingly warm brown.  Unfortunately, as mentioned above, she likes to hide them.

Clothing: Indy favors jeans, sneakers and baggy t-shirts, though she also has a fair amount of traditional clothing for special occasions as well (she rarely wears a sari or anything similar to school, however, because of the attention it draws--but it pleases her parents to see her in traditional clothing, so sometimes she gives in on special occasions for their sake).  The only out of the ordinary thing about her "fashion sense" is that she is fond of bangly bracelets and arm warmers.  She likes these so much that she will wear them even though the bangles (stainless silver or colorful plastic, usually) make noise.

Carriage: Slinky, tremulous and tentative.  Indy has some amount of natural grace owing to her body's shape, but she is good at hiding it, as she tends to creep around literally on her tiptoes, trying very hard not to bother anybody (DESPITE DESPERATELY WISHING TO BE FRIENDS WITH THEM).  If not for her bangles, she would be as noiseless and swift as a ninja.

Voice: Indy's voice is in the alto range but she's so soft spoken that it's hard for people to determine any of its qualities.  She mumbles and speaks too fast, prompting a great deal of "What now?" responses (which of course makes it worse, because then she has to open her mouth AGAIN).  In sharp contrast to her voice, Indy has kind of a high, nervous, false sounding laugh, probably because it usually is just that--she rarely ever lets out a genuine, rich laugh or speaks loud enough for anyone to hear the general depth of her voice.

Likes:
People: Indy really loves humanity (and demi-humanity, even) as a whole, which is too bad, because she's also terrified of them (see Dislikes).  She is content to huddle away in a corner during lunchtime and stare at people, probably with a mixture of terror and longing on her face.

Enclosed spaces: Indy is actually more comfortable in a tight spot than an open one--as long as she's the only one in it.  When she was younger she had a fondness for locking herself in the closet for extended periods of time, usually due to some real or imagined fear (a strange noise from the kitchen, a spider crawling across the floor, so on and so forth).  However, this becomes a dislike if she is in the space with other people XD;

TV: Particularly situation comedies.  This is another unfortunate like, as TVs (along with anything else electrical) tend to malfunction randomly around her, so she'll be sitting enjoying the comedy stylings of Andy Richter when suddenly the power blips off for the next ten minutes and she is very sad.

Jewelry: Indy loves precious stones and metals, particularly rubies and sapphires.  She is fond of adorning herself with her mother's jewelry while in the privacy of her room and admiring it in the mirror.  Fortunately, her mother has discerning tastes, and most of her pieces are pure silver or pure gold or whathaveyou--only a very few bracelets or necklaces cause Indy pains due to their iron content.

Strong winds: Indy is fond of a windy day.  She likes the feeling of air swirling around her body and making her hair all floaty.

Dislikes:
People: Indy doesn't dislike most of these things so much as she just fears them.  People--whether regular or demi-human--top the list.  She has a kind of social anxiety disorder where other sentient beings make her very, very nervous, though she is not so crippled by her constant fear that she cannot function in society.  Mostly she just tries to slip beneath everyone's radar and hope she is not noticed, though that is very difficult because she is tallish and exotic-looking (admittedly not as exotic as she would be if she lived in the South or some other diversity lacking place, but her height, shiny hair, and dusky skin still make her a standout--particularly when she gives in her to parents' wishes to dress in colorful, traditional clothing).  So, in general, her social encounters are limited, awkward, and embarrassing for all involved, though she desperately wishes this were not so.  She just can't seem to get past her violent fears of everyone and everything around her.

Vicious creatures: Please note that this list includes everything from snakes to large dogs to spiders to bumblebees to mosquitoes.  Even fuzzy kittens make her a bit wary (they have poison in their claws, you know).  Any sort of creature that could potentially harm her in some way terrifies Indy.  Most people around school or on the street have likely witnessed her minor spazzes--when a buzzing, flying insect draws too near, she will jerk away violently as though being struck by an invisible force.

Her powers: Actually, these are probably her biggest dislike and fear, and it is this fear that contributes to all of her other fears.  Indira is stone cold horrorstruck at the destructive power of her own mad skillz, to the point where she does everything she can to suppress them (in vain).

Hobbies:
Weaving, knitting, etc: Indy finds repetitive constructive activities such as these very soothing.  She is rather good at needlework, though while at school she tends to braid together pieces of colored yarn to make friendship bracelets as a calming exercise.  She has a quite a few of them stuffed in her locker (she has never given them to anyone XD).

Drawing: Again with the slightly repetitive constructiveness.  The sound of pen/pencil against paper also relaxes her, including the sound of her own pen or pencil against paper.  She is relatively skilled at this, also, just because she devotes so much time to it.  If she's not staring at people during lunch she's staring at them and drawing them.  I suppose if you want to get psychological, drawing something is her way of making it 'safe.'  The image of a person's face on the paper is much less frightening than the actual face itself.

Ambitions: Not dying XD No, seriously, Indy is just grateful if she makes it through the day.  She hasn't really given much thought to her future self, unfortunately.

Personality: Sweet, empathetic, kind, and TERRIFIED OF EVERYTHING, in case it's not yet obvious.  Lurking beneath Indy's severe neuroses is an extremely friendly and sympathetic person who is often suppressed due to the magnitude of her social ineptitude.  She longs for lots of diverse friends or even a few close ones, and she has the ability to get them, as she possesses a rather charming nature, really--but this nature is suppressed and hindered by her own anxieties.  Combined with these anxieties is a crushing guilt over them--she senses that people think she avoids them or skitters away because she is contemptuous of them, and that is the exact opposite of the truth.  But, at this point, she doesn't know what to do about it.

History: Why exactly is Indy so terrified of everything?  A good part of it stems from her fear of herself, which developed at an early age, when her powers began to manifest.  Always a sensitive child, little Indy was easily spooked by sudden movements and unidentifiable noises, and she never liked to sit outside among the insects.  Thus, there were several incidents where she would be playing outside in the backyard and be upset by a passing spider or beetle or something, and she would be so badly frightened that sparks would shoot from her wee fingers and kill them.  Worse, sometimes she was upset by the sound of squirrels or even, while out in the front yard, dogs that investigated her too closely.  These animals she also accidentally shocked, though she didn't kill them, just frizzed them out a bit.  Then she would cry and it would start to rain XD;  Her parents noticed Indy's burgeoning powers immediately, and it probably didn't help that they saw them more as a curse than a blessing.  They loved their daughter, of course, but they were scared of her abilities, too, and began to hold her at arm's length at a very early age (her mother now, especially, feels very badly about this).  So, her parents were afraid of her, and she was afraid of herself, and this situation combined with her natural tendency towards anxiety to make her the tremblebeast she is today.  Basically, Indy doesn't want to hurt anyone (nevermind that her reaction shocks can only kill insects and would hardly even hurt a human being), and because she thought she was dangerous from an early age, her natural introversion intensified to the point where everything was doubly frightening due to its potential for it to harm her and her to cause harm in return (...if that makes sense ._.).

NPCs: Dhavlesh and Anuradha Ashni: Indira's loving if somewhat detached parents.  Dhavlesh still has ambivalent feelings towards his daughter, despite her obvious soft heart and gentleness, he can't help but worry that she is going to explode and kill them all in the night or something.  He loves her, but unfortunately he is still fearful of her  Anuradha, less so.  She is more attentive and fussy than Dhavlesh, and perhaps borders on overbearing, as if to make up for spending Indira's early years creeping around her like she was some kind of bomb.

Powers:
Ward of Lightning: IT IS A SHOCKING EXPERIENCE, HAHAHA

Lightning Shower: This power has the potential for MASSIVE SMACKDOWN if Indira can ever Build a Bridge and Get Over It.  Essentially, Indira calls forth a stream of powerful and deadly accurate lightning bolts to shoot down at and around the target.  But, as it stands, Indira is too afraid to utilize it to its full potential--intially she is only able to call down one or two relatively weak (but still painful) bolts that may or may not hit their mark.

Electricity Conductor: Indira has the ability to shoot out electrical sparks from her fingertips, though they are usually of a fairly low voltage.  Though she couldn't control it as a child, she has a good lock on it now--but sometimes people will still feel a small electric shock if they touch her, particularly if she's scared of them (...and she probably is).

Storm Caller: Indira can summon up powerful storms at will, though this actually happens on a more involuntary than voluntary basis.  The weather directly around her is sensitive to her feelings--for example, if she's happy, the clouds might appear to be wearing smiley faces, and if she's upset, then it will start to rain on and around her general area (i.e. her house or the school campus).  Storm clouds literally follow her around when she's agitated, basically XD This is another ability that could potentially be very useful if Indira could just relax about it.

Special Items:

Special Skills:
Ducklike: Water seems to roll off Indira's skin without leaving much in the way of actual wetness.  Not particularly useful, just freakish n_n

Human battery: Um, she could probably jumpstart your car if you needed it XD

Empathetic: Indy is very good at sensing what other people are feeling...she's just not very good at responding to it.

Weather Balloon: She knows when it's going to rain--she can smell it, sense it, etc.  Good for making morning fashion choices.
