Birth Name: Harmony Prometheus Hildenson (Harmony means [wait for it] "harmony", Prometheus means "he who thinks before" and hildenson means "warrior")
Angelic Position: Angel of (Obsessive Compulsive Dis)Order
Place in the Spheres: First year student at the University of London, majoring in Everything Ever.
Age: 18 (barely legal, baby!)
Birthdate: January 1st, making her a Capricorn: she is methodical, organized, practical, often aloof and generally business-like in her mannerisms. Her Moon sign is Aquarius; her ascendant is Libra.
Likes:
Neatness; she's obsessive-compulsive about cleanliness and will in fact come to your house and clean your room if she hears that there are some clothes on the floor.
Comic-books; she collects comic books of all kinds because she enjoys the art form. She's the kind of fan that would actually say they're not comic books, they're graphic novels. Hers are of course arranged alphabetically and placed in protective plastic sheets if available.
Classical music; Harmony finds it soothing, especially during homework, she likes Bach and Chopin best.
Logic; the general lack of logic used by people amazes Harmony. She always derives conclusions based on facts and common sense, and she's often surprised that a large number of people do not. She also likes logic in the rhetorical sense.
Arithmetic; Math makes Harmony happy, as it is a world of set answers and logical reasoning.
Philosophy; even though it can sometimes be a little abstract for her taste, she still enjoys reading the works of various philosophers (namely, Kant, Descartes, Voltaire, etc) because she likes learning about differing perspectives of the human condition.
Chess; her favorite game, partly because of the reasoning skills required to play it properly and partly because it doesn't involve getting up.
History; Harmony likes to read about and analyze the past. She believes firmly in the adage that those who don't know the past are doomed to repeat it.
Dislikes:
Irrational behavior; Harmony finds erratic and eccentric actions incredibly irritating, but she tolerates them from people whose other virtues outshine their lack of logic.
Prejudice; although Harmony sees a lot of things wrong with the world, she doesn't feel it's her job to preach. Similarly, she hates being preached to. (however, she can get a bit hypocritical with this one at times and allow her violent self-righteousness to shine through when listening to a conversation)
People that tell her to lighten up; Sort of in the same vein as the previous. Harmony doesn't like being told how to live her life and will not hesitate to tell you so.
The Great Outdoors; Harmony would never go outside if not for the occasional nice day (and even then, it's only to enjoy the breeze). She thinks nature would be greatly improved by the removal of all insects, but at the same time would not do it if she could because of how it would affect the ecosystem.
Is Neutral On: Although Harmony has strong opinions about the dangers of excessive alcohol and drug use, she's very broadminded in terms of religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation, and so on. As a reasonable, thorough person, she's able to see the pros and cons of nearly every viewpoint, therefore her own personal opinions are a malleable but meticulous and conscientious mishmash. She's in the middle of the political spectrum, though perhaps slightly more liberal than conservative; she's not religious but she believes in the existence of a sustaining/creating force; and her own orientation is all/none.
Hobbies: Harmony loves reading--not just philosophy, history or comic books, but everything (including scientific texts). A great deal of her free time is taken up with books. She likes attending classical music recitals, writing critical essays in a journal (generally responses to something she's read in a philosophy book), and spending hours in the library. She also enjoys candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach n_n
Aspirations/Dreams: She wants to know as much as she can about as much as she can. She wants to make a difference in the world, somewhere, somehow. She wants to better the human condition, but she doesn't want to deal with most humans XD
NPCs: Gemma: Harmony's mother. A flighty but caring sort of woman, she's constantly amazed at how two inconstant people such as herself and her ex-husband could have created someone like Harmony. Nevertheless, she loves her daughter and calls constantly to check on her, although she's not very good with time differences and sometimes catches Harmony in the middle of the night. X3
History: Harmony was born in London, to an Irish mother and a Norweigian father. Their marriage was always on rocky territory, but it got rockier after Harmony was born--her father was a photojournalist, so he was always traveling, and her mother's desired career (hair stylist to models at fashion shows all over Europe) necessitated quite a bit of traveling as well. She didn't want to leave Harmony alone, particularly after it became clear that they were raising an introvert, but she didn't want to give up her career, either. Her method of compromise was to leave Harmony in a babysitter's care much of the time. The fact is that her parents weren't ready for a child in any sense of the word. They married young, and it was almost as much because of love as because of her mother's pregnancy. Both of them had exciting careers that they didn't want to abandon, and Harmony was a needy baby and toddler.
As a small child, Harmony was precocious and nervous, twitchy. She learned to read at an early age, and her parents soon discovered that handing her a book was the best way to get her to relax and stop fidgeting. Wee Harmony was always unsure of herself, self-doubting, even given to tears. Sometimes she would be playing alone in her room with blocks, and if a block unexpectedly tumbled out of its set place, she would begin to cry. She was meticulously neat in her own way: she would 'pick up' her toys, but her idea of a proper place didn't always match her parents'. A set of blocks, in her opinion, belonged in the middle of the floor, for easy access--packed into its box and arranged carefully, but still in the middle of the floor.
By the time she was ten, the family had moved almost six times, and her parents' bickering increased exponentially over that time. It filled their living space with tension, one reason for Harmony's fragile nerves. The constant school switching added to her stress: not only was she socially inept, but she never stayed in any one place long enough to find other socially inept people to befriend. Large groups of unfamiliar caused her great anxiety, because she wasn't used to them--her parents never took along for their work, and most of her early life was spent alone with the sitter. In fact, if not for her fairly affectionate sitters, she probably would have had even more problems--you know how they say that babies that aren't held become psychopaths? That would have been Harmony. It wasn't that Gemma didn't love her daughter, she just didn't have time to love her, and as cruel as it is to say, she was too young and dumb to realize that maybe Harmony was a little more important than the glitzy world of fashion.
So, things are bad at home, and things are bad at school. Harmony's only solace was books, of all kinds--science books, math books, history books, fiction books. She was a brilliant child, and excelled at every academic task put to her--though, again, she never stayed long enough in one school to be settled into an accelerated program. She grew to like being alone with words and formulas. She bottled up her emotions, not wanting to contribute to the already unpleasant home atmosphere, and controlled her nerves and depression when teased or neglected.
But finally her parents woke up to the situation at hand, and what was happening to their daughter. When she was fourteen, they divorced, which did not traumatize her in the least. On the contrary, she was glad: she saw it as a logical decision, and she wished that they had made it earlier. Her mother got custody, and began paying more attention to Harmony's needs, though she still traveled regularly and Harmony still spent a lot of time alone. But now the tension was gone, and she had already begun to tap into her powerful resources of will. Gemma settled them in London, and Harmony was able to carry out her secondary education in relative stability. By this time, Harmony had herself almost completely under control. Her life was, as ever, mostly unfettered by parental supervision, but now that she had structure, she was no longer as insecure, and her sense of independence flourished. She remained an anti-social butterfly, having few friends throughout school, but she became tolerant of crowds. Her weekend activities involved numerous trips to classical recitals and art museums, though she arrived and left alone.
Her love of knowledge endured,
and she continued to excel in school, even when the work was beneath her
considerable intelligence. She had no love for busy work, but she
considered it her duty to make good grades, so she mustered up the drive
to perform regardless. Harmony received top marks on her A-levels
and a generous scholarship for her efforts, which brings us to where she
is today.
Personality:
Harmony is both intelligent and clever, but she's also anal retentive, somewhat obessive-compulsive, and has a great deal of private self-righteousness that tends to leak out sometimes. She recognizes her own flaws, but finds them insurmountable to the point where she has trouble fixing them, though she does try.
Harmony is fortunate to have both book smarts and common sense. She not only understands the situation, but she knows the best way to deal with it. She learns very quickly, and remembers information once it's absorbed. Her mind is very much aligned with the analytical, so she can think in both the abstract and concrete senses. Despite this, though, she's not terribly creative. Harmony tends to go for the simplest and most obvious explanation--the one that seems the most reasonable and efficient. Her imagination is limited to her knowledge--that is, since she draws conclusions based on facts, she has a hard time simply creating something from her brain. This is why she would rather write an essay on Dostoevsky as opposed to writing a story that emulates his style.
Harmony is polite to the point of excess, even to those she dislikes intensely. Actually, the more she dislikes you, the more polite she'll be--her way of putting formal distance between those she doesn't want to deal with. But she's formal in general, both in speech and attitude. She has an extensive vocubulary and is not afraid to use it in everyday conversation. However, she doesn't throw in big words to seem smart or confuse people--she just can't help it. In fact she considers it a flaw, and sometimes she'll actively try to speak more simply. She has a hard time making friends, not because she's particularly anti-social, but because her demeanor often seems cold and aloof, an impression that's not helped at all by her elaborate diction. She does have a soft voice, but many people still tend to intrepret her five dollar words as patronizing.
Yet there are times when she means to be. Although Harmony doesn't like to force her views on other people, she still has a healthy well spring of self-righteousness, both in terms of academic and moral knowledge. She knows she's right, she knows she's good, and by God you'd better believe it too. When Harmony gets into fierce debates, she has a tendency to completely destroy the opposition, just because she always backs up her points with massive amounts of evidence. She never makes claims she can't support, and she never gives up those claims. In terms of a moral situation, well, let's say she had a friend that liked to do drugs and drink. Every time she heard about this friend's exploits with such, she would gently tell her that perhaps it's not entirely prudent to pump one's body full of narcotics and alcoholic substances, but inside she would be clucking her tongue, shaking her head and lecturing. If it got to the point where the friend was being severely affected by this behavior, Harmony would take off the gloves and scold her for hours. The same can happen in regular conversation, especially if she feels threatened by whoever she's talking to. She hates this trait of hers, but it's not because she doesn't really think she's right--she just thinks maybe she should keep it to herself more often. As a fairly private person herself, what business is it of hers if someone wants to engage in self-destructive behavior? Even so, she just can't stand by and let it happen.
Harmony fears very little. She also rarely worries, or doubts herself, although she is hard on herself about certain traits (her own hypocrisy, her speaking style, her morals--she doesn't doubt that she's a good person, but she knows that she can always be better)--she knows that such emotions don't help anything, especially fear. She doesn't fear insects or animals, because she knows that, logically, most animals will leave you alone if you leave them alone. She's not afraid of people, and she's not really afraid of death either (not that she's big on the idea or anything), because being afraid will only worsen a situation. She has incredible self-control.
She's not a happy person, but she's rarely depressed. Often Harmony's mood is simply placid. Harmony's a very patient person, and she rarely ever gets upset or angry. Mildly irritated is the most extreme form of anger most people will see of her, possibly severely irritated if there are extenuating circumstances. But most of the time she just doesn't see the point. She doesn't respond to insults or bullying; she'll either retort calmly or ignore it. But, being anal-retentive, she can't tolerate things being out of place--her room is the picture of cleanliness, and if she had it her way, every other room on the planet would be the same. She generally has to restrain herself from cleaning someone's house when she visits--she's only able to because she thinks it's rude to touch a person's things without permission.
Getting back to relationships, Harmony pretty much has no friends at this point, only acquaintances. As stated, people find her unapproachable, and she doesn't try very hard to make friends either. But at the same time she doesn't go out of her way to avoid anyone, and she loves a good conversation, but it's her natural instinct to keep to herself. It's not really shyness, more just a sense of reservation. Despite her strong confidence in herself, her personality is not at all forceful. In point of fact, she's very easy to get along with--just hard to get to know. And although she can be judgmental, she has a very open mind--really, it's mainly things that she considers self destructive that she strongly disapproves of (i.e., excess, especially of the kind that involves sex, smoking and drinking--obviously, not being of any of these things don't do much for her popularity at college). In all other respects, as mentioned, she's basically intolerant of intolerance.
But she's a good friend to have. Besides operating under her own strict moral code of loyalty, etc, she'll always be one hundred percent honest with you--if you're being stupid, Harmony will tell you that you are being stupid (and you need to stop). She has something of a mothering instinct in her, but it's very opposite to a mothering instinct like, say, Demi's--while Demi will give you cookies and hugs if you're upset, Harmony will tell you to suck it up and try again. Unless the problem is serious (like a death in the family or a lasting depression or something of that nature), Harmony favors tough love, not mollycoddling. In addition, Harmony doesn't take crap. Foolishness is simply not in her schedule, and she doesn't have time to deal with nonsense from anyone. However, she's not the kind to hold a grudge, because, again, she recognizes that she's often too harsh on people who engage in behaviors she finds idiotic. This is the major reason she has trouble relating to her peers, since most of them are at an age where they regularly indulge in idiotic behavior.
Harmony just feels like she has more important things to do than go to clubs and get drunk. She has a vicious drive to succeed at everything she does, and she doesn't tolerate failure from herself, perhaps one reason why she can't accept it in others. This is because, for all her self-confidence, Harmony doesn't think she's superior to anyone. She would concede that perhaps she works harder, but she thinks everyone has the same capacity for success and failure, thus, if she is able to succeed, everyone around her should be able to succeed as well. Harmony's ambition is clear from the number of activities she involves herself in at college and the massive weight of her course load, both of which will only increase as the years go by. As a freshman, she has already involved herself in the Chess Club, the Book Club, the student government, the student newspaper, as well as several clubs devoted to the sciences and philosophy. She aims to be the president/leader of many of these groups by the end of her sophomore year, or at the very least some sort of important officer. She's thinking about a double major of Biology and Chemistry, with a minor in History--but she might change it. More often than not she has to apply for an overload when she selects her classes, as she always ends up with several more than the required hours. This doesn't leave her much time for relaxing, and when she does relax, she would rather it not be at a noisy, obnoxious party where she only vaguely knows the participants. Ideally, she would only have a few close friends, but the fact is that she doesn't even have one. Everyone knows her or knows of her, but she doesn't hang out with anyone on a regular basis. Part of her would like this to change, but the aforementioned natural instinct to keep to herself holds her back. She needs to meet people that are willing to physically drag her out of her shell, basically ^_^;
If she does have a best friend, it's her day planner. Harmony is very fond of schedules, and hers is severely regimented, often down to the hour. She allows herself certain amounts of time for everything she does, with a small amount of buffer time in case of unforeseen circumstances, including relatively simple tasks like eating lunch. Spontaeneity flusters her, even for the smallest things. For example, if she had planned to eat at the dining hall one night, but then arrived and found it was closed, she would be irritated at having to choose a different place to eat right on the spot. She likes structure and she likes predictability--these are things that make her comfortable, but also the things that hold her back.
Finally, it might seem that, given the above, Harmony is something of a mechanical non-human, and she's certainly the victim of that and other misconceptions. Most of what people assume her tends to be one big amalgamation of a misconception, really, because most people don't know her. She's not an ice queen, and she has powerful feelings about many things--but she's also withdrawn and self-controlled. The thing that people don't understand is that she wasn't born that way.
In summation--
pros: intelligent and clever,
kind, loyal, honest, responsible, moral, open-minded, patient
neutral: amibitious, strong-willed, reasonable, composed
cons: anal retentive, a bit
judgmental, emotionally reserved, aloof, rigid, cold, unskilled at creative
and most abstract thought, repressed
Appearance:
Eyes: Harmony's eyes are amber-gold, sharp and bright, but smaller than would be expected for someone her size (though still rounded). Generally she has them narrowed for one reason or another (either in irritation or thought), but her face is too round and her features too soft to seem menacing. More often she just looks inquistive and kind of cute, which doesn't please her one bit.
Face and Skin: Harmony's so white she blinds people. She generally goes for the smooth, waxy look, which is easy to maintain since she hates the sun. She doesn't know if she tans because she's rarely allowed herself to be in the sun that long (and when she is, she slathers on the sunblock). As said, her face is round and non-threatening, and she has a small nose and mouth. She looks 'cute', like you might want to hug her or pat her on the head; the only indication otherwise are her bright eyes.
Hair: Long, straight, and white, Harmony's hair falls down to her waist. She takes good care of it--it's her main point of vanity--so it's soft and silky. Sometimes she'll pull it back into a ponytail, but usually she just wears it down.
Build: Harmony's small and thin (about 5'2), but not to the point of lacking meat (though she thinks her arms are a little too skinny). She has long fingers and thin wrists, and long, narrow feet as well (she has a hard time finding shoes).
Carriage: Harmony moves with brisk purpose. She walks very deliberately, but quickly, as if she knows where she's going and what she's going to do when she gets there. She's the kind of person that could get away with just leaving class and not being harrassed by a school official, being that she looks like she's on business. Because of this, she tends to seem unapproachable despite her small, innocuous looks. The fact that her eyes always seem drawn into a cool glare (even when they're really not) doesn't help.
Clothing: Harmony generally favors white blouses, pencil skirts and sandals, or other clothes in that vein. She dresses simply but comfortably, not caring very much about style so much as its function. But she does prefer either subdued, softer colors or pure white (you would never catch her in, say, a pair of red pants with a fruit pattern, for example, no matter how comfortable those pants may be).
Voice: Harmony speaks softly but directly. She doesn't like to raise her voice (but she will if the sheer force of the stupidity around her forces it to be so), and her natural tone is so gentle that even when her words may seem condescending it doesn't sound like her intention.
Abilities:
Vast Knowledge: Harmony
has a photographic memory and an incredible ability to recall pertinent
facts for any given situation. If knowledge is power, then she's
Thora McBadass in this respect.
Mad Analytical Skillz: Harmony is an excellent problem-solver, capable of seeing all sides of a situation and making quick, appropriate decisions.
Bobby Fisher's Long Lost Sister: Although she doesn't play professionally, Harmony is quite good at chess, and an active participant in the college club.
Eternally placid: Harmony remains calm even in very stressful situations, thus enabling her to reason out her actions despite extreme external pressures.
† The Angelic
Color:
Peach cream.
Symbol:
The symbol for order that
I should have looked up years ago but didn't because I am extremely lame,
it is the right side up form of the Chaos symbol here.
Essentially two connected circles, the first larger than the second and
containing a dot in the center, with a small cross on the bottom.
Key to the Kingdom:
Small, slender, and creamy
pale gold, Sadriel's key is notable for its hollow, circular head and the
two smaller circles attached to the teeth. The metal is delicately
scalloped, and the key's egdes are smooth and rounded. Once discovered,
Harmony wears it from her neck on a silver chain.
Voile:
Sadriel wears a sleeveless
white dress with a sort of sweetheart neckline bordered with cream peach.
The dress is slit up the left side (right as you're looking) for ease of
movement (and to show off her legs, woohoo), revealing Sadriel's stockings,
which begin at the top of her thighs and end on her ankles. Her stockings
are white with peach borders and crisscrossed with peach ribbons.
She wears sandals with gauzy, peach thongs, and long white gloves that
begin just past her shoulders. Circular imagery is abundant on Sadriel's
ensemble--there's a gold circle on the peach belt across her waist, on
the knuckles and borders of her gloves, and on the thong of her sandals.
She wears her key on a piece of peach fabric around her neck.
Wow, what a terrible description. Here's a lame visual representation, or you can also choose to view the AWESOME VISUAL REPRESENTATION (drawn by Laris), whichever you prefer.
Wings:
Standard wings, nothing
special to see here. No tints or other distinguishing colorations,
and they're just large enough to support Sadriel's weight while flying.
Weapon:
A staff, which can be used
to bind opponents in place or for just a general beating on the head (though
she's better at the binding). Sadriel has a weapon because her attack
is fairly weak, and though she has some useful skills, most of them are
meant to be used in group settings (i.e., her strategical prowess).
Though she's not an expert with it, having the staff will help ensure that
she is not completely powerless in the event that she must face an enemy
alone.
Climbing the Sephiroth:
Harmony holds her key aloft
and shouts, "Crown!", at which point a large cream-toned mandala like
this appears behind her. The mandala is essentially a meditation
circle, with its details representing various stages/obstacles on the path
to inner peace (and, presumably, order). As the chant continues,
the mandala slowly breaks down--she says 'Wisdom, Understanding, Mercy'
and the first 'gate' opens, forming her stockings and gloves as well as
the outline of her staff, then "Strength, Beauty, Victory" and the second
'gate' opens, forming the body of her dress, the lipstick on her lips,
and filling out her staff, then "Splendor, Foundation" and the third gate
opens, forming her shoes and the circle decorations that adorn various
parts of her voile, and finally "Kingdom!" where in the last gate opens,
the mandala explodes in a burst of light and settles into the form of her
wings and halo.
Gifts:
Reconstruction: Perhaps
Sadriel's most useful skill, this gift enables her to reconstruct things
that have been destroyed--such as a shredded piece of paper or a crumbled
wall. The strength of this power increases as she ascends: normal
Sadriel would be able to put back papers and other small things, but a
fully ascended Sadriel might be able to fix up a house or a castle or something
else equally impressive.
Spider sense: Sadriel knows when there is a disturbance in the Force--if something evil or unnatural is lurking about (or even if there's a fellow Angel closeby) she'll be able to tell. This power is faintly active as Harmony, as well--she won't be able to place the problem, but she'll get an ominous feeling if there's an improper presence hanging around.
Master of Strategery: As mentioned, Harmony has advanced analytical abilities, and as Sadriel, she's able to put these to use on the battlefield. Her strategical skills allow her to formulate battle plans quickly and discern when and how to attack or retreat.
Stay Good, Sadriel: Sadriel's alert and regimented mind is almost impervious to spells and attacks that warp reality/cause hallucinations/et cetera (for example, Orfiel's power doesn't usually affect her). Obviously, she's not completely invulnerable--if the attack originates from a powerful LoH, then she won't be able to fight it off, but she might be less affected than others (excepting Tabris, of course).
Attacks:
Logical Slam: This is a
fairly weak attack that is most effective when used in conjunction with
a better, stronger attack. Its primary function is to stun the enemy.
To activate it, Sadriel presses her wrists together, palms out, then shouts
the attack name. A thick, solid beam of peach colored light shoots
out from her hands (it's all Kamehameha) in a straight line at the target.
The range is fairly extensive--it could reach across a football field--but
at the same time the attack loses effectiveness relative to distance.
Its power is also affected by the target itself--is the target strong willed,
with a clear, controlled mind? If so, then this attack will stun
him/her/it only slightly, perhaps not even work at all. It works
the best against monster of the day type creatures and other sorts with
feeble, malleable brains. Also, it doesn't have any homing powers
and it operates only in a straight line, so if she's far away then it's
fairly easy for a quick target to dodge.
It works by assaulting the enemy's mind with mountains upon mountains of theorems and forumlas and other pieces of knowledge, to the point of mental shutdown--hence why it would be weak against a capable mind.
NPCs:
I don't think Sadriel would
put up with a guardian fairy all that well XD
